Donnell Rawlings visits Brown Bag Mornings on Power106 with Letty, Rosecrans Vic, and DoKnow.
Donnell is an American actor, radio host and comedian who is most recognized for his roles as a cast member on the HBO drama The Wire and the Comedy Central sketch comedy Chappelle’s Show.
Donnell discusses his collaborations with Marshall Branded, Jeff Ross, and Chappelle.
He says, “We were performing for a like 15-20 thousand people a night,” and that before he was introduced as “Ashy Larry,” no one really supported him.
That role is what truly propelled him to where he is today.
He goes on to say that the sketch including “Ashy Larry” was originally designed and written for Dave and Eddy to be the stars of it “If you look at it me and Charlie had little roles” he says. Matter of fact the characters original name was “Larry” and he turned the character into “Ashy Larry”. “I went to makeup and I said give me some baby powder” and from there on became one of the most iconic characters. Donnell always knew that whatever role he was given he was going to outperform and that’s exactly what he did with “Ashy Larry” turning the character into one of the most recognizable roles.
