We’ve enjoyed him bringing hilarious nostalgia to our social media pages and roasting his haters on youtube.

One of stand-up comedy’s biggest rising stars is taking his love for comedy to new heights while learning new ways to captivate an audience from some of his favorite comedic peers.

The Mike Murphy Show is a weekly podcast that sees Pittsburgh, PA comedian Mike Murphy sit down with some of the genre’s biggest stars to discuss various topics including comedic journeys, highlights, lowights, lessons, perceptions, what’s next, and so much more.

Mike Murphy: Mike Murphy is a father, comedian, actor, writer, and US Army Veteran. Mike grew up in Garfield, a neighborhood in the inner city of Pittsburgh, in the late 90s and early 2000s. Growing up in Garfield and having six siblings, his environment helped shape and mold him into the man he is today. Coming from where he came from, getting out of the ghetto presented many challenges, such that led him to enlist into the Army and serving two tours in Iraq — receiving multiple medals and badges — to escape a life he knew had no future.

Throughout grade school, Mike’s teachers, peers, and friends knew he was intelligent, but instead of applying his intelligence to school, Mike enjoyed being the center of attention by making people laugh. Mike’s intelligence coupled with the gift of gab, helped him transform himself into Comedian Mike Murphy. Mike was first introduced to comedy while owning a dump truck business when a friend suggested he sign up to do stand up comedy at the Pittsburgh Improv. After his first time on stage, Mike knew comedy was his Happy place and his calling. Love, at first sight, some might call it. Mike’s first big break was in 2019 when he opened up for DC Young Fly in front of more than one thousand people. After that performance, he dissolved his dump truck business and moved to Los Angeles, California to fulfill his dream as a Comedian. Since moving to LA Mike has performed with Legends such as Dave Chappelle, Gary Owen, David Arnold, Earthquake, Mark Curry and Deray Davis as well as touring with Tony Rock. You can see him perform live all over Los Angeles at places like the World Famous Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv.

In this week’s episode, comedian Malik S. talks about his path into comedy as well as the early success he’s had by making it into Comic View after only 6 months of doing comedy. He speaks about his relationship with DL Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer and how his talent allowed to tour with them as well as Russel Peters. We spoke about his writing and acting ability as well.

Malik S.: Born and raised in Miami, Florida Malik S. is the last of seven children and a triple-threat talent (comedian, actor and writer). His stand-up career has given him the opportunity to be an actor and a network TV writer. He grew up defending himself from his older siblings with laughter. Malik’s material is based on everyday life with a lot of creative humor in between.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree at Florida Memorial University, Malik taught high school for one year while pursuing his career as a comedian.

Malik has performed on many stages, but it was on BET’s Comic View where he got his break six months after beginning on his journey. He went on to appear on the show for five consecutive seasons from 1999-2004. Malik has appeared on HBO Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central Live at Gotham, NBC Last Comic Standing season 4, ABC Comics Unleashed and HBO P. Diddy Presents Bad Boyz of Comedy. Currently Malik is a writer and actor (Trey) on CBS’s “The Neighborhood.” He’s also has made appearances on Blackish, The Soul Man, Born Again Virgin and Zoe Ever and The Comedy Get Down.
