How did you discover your passion for comedy:
After bombing my first attempt at the stage, I set out to get good.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I remember forgetting everything I planned for the first minute. I had 4 more minutes of awkward glances and smirks.

How would you describe your comedic style:
My comedic style is different. I know that doesn’t say much but I don’t know how to describe my style. I guess I kinda shoot from the hip and I live and perform unapologetically.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
Life hits and I process it by talking it out loud.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
The Las Vegas comedy scene is a pretty diverse group. I say that because some cities don’t even have a comedy scene. In Las Vegas, there are the tiers of comedy. The open mic scene, then the comedy club scene, then the headliner with a residency. Where do I fit in? I suppose I’m in the clubs but I also headline a room on Thursday nights but by no means do I put myself up there with Seinfeld.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
Success in comedy to me is when I’ve got that equal work-life balance. I’m not hungry for a gig but I’m not so overwhelmed with show dates. As long as my fans are happy with what I put out and they continue to support me, I’ve made it.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
I enjoy watching friends like Shawn Felipe, Shayma Tash, and Angie Krum to name a few. They’ve all inspired me to be better, to do better, and to keep putting myself out there despite the hardship.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
This past November, I returned to my hometown for 2 live shows. The reception was overwhelming as it felt like I was welcomed back home with open arms.

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
The failures in comedy were my most helpful moments. I learned what not to do and how not to do them.

How do people react toward you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
They usually try to reciprocate that energy by telling me jokes.

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
First, the material. Tried and true, the package is complete.

Then a fan base, social media following… I’ve seen so many talented performers who don’t get the attention they deserve simply bc they don’t put themselves out there. And I’ve also seen many influencers sell out shows simply bc they had the draw.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
If I could change one thing, it would be cancel culture. I’d teach them how to change the channel.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
“Don’t say funny things. Say things funny.” – Andy Bumatai

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
I’d call it “Mentally ILL”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
I played Ping Pong with Cary Tagawa (Mortal Kombat Shang Tsung) and he told me “Your Ball is Mine!”

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
I did stand up at a park on a picnic table for 7 people. No mic. I got off the table and they were still my friends bc they laughed.

A Kitty Pineapple Fun Fact:
The jokes I write are mostly fully formed in my head and spoken to me in the form of a voice.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
I would like my laughs to take me to Madison Square Garden Arena. I wanna see if I can create enough of a buzz that many people would come out to laugh with me.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Show us who you are and don’t be shy about it. If you’re honest about who you are and people like you, all you gotta do is be funny.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
I feel like people are over cancel culture but it’s still out there. I hope that for the future of comedy, we’re back to shooting from the hip and saying how we feel, and people either liked it or didn’t.

I think we’re heading back that way.

If you could write one episode for one classic TV sitcom which show would it be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
I’d write one for Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Will makes friends with a guy named Chris and they take a painkiller for the first time and try to make the other person feel pain by slapping them. We end the episode with Will saying “I hope the next time we do this, it’s just as fun.”

If you could choose 1 comedy club and 3 comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
I’d perform with my friends Shawn Felipe, Angie Krum, and Anne Flagg.

What’s next for you:
I’m planning a Hawaii Island Tour at the end of November. Hopefully, it is a taping and we can distribute it for streaming.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Life is full of teachable moments. In our hardships and failures, we learn to overcome and become stronger for it. If we can’t stop to find humor in our lives, then we run the risk of dwelling in anger and sadness. We need laughter in our life, it’s the one thing we can do that makes us feel happier.
