American comedian Lewis Black is to retire from touring.

The 75-year-old – who has also been a regular on The Daily Show in all of its 28 seasons – says his last dates will be at the end of next year.

Black broke the news on his Rantcast podcast, and also posted the relevant clip on Instagram.

He said:

‘I’ve said this to people and it doesn’t seem to get through to them. “What do you mean you’re retiring?” Listen to the end of the sentence: I am retiring from touring.

“Really. I’m not making this up, I’m not going to come back and tour again. I’m going through to the end of December next year.

“Will I continue to perform? Yes, but I will literally perform from time to time.

In the caption on social media, he added: ‘If you want to see me on the road, you better hurry. Final tour dates coming soon.’

Black typically performs around 200 live shows a year, and is set to appear at the Leicester Square Theatre in London on May 19 in what may now be his last UK date. It has been rescheduled from June this year.

He was voted the 51st greatest stand-up comedian of all time by Comedy Central in 2004.
