How did you discover your passion for comedy:
When I realized it could keep me from getting my ass beat.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
The silence

How would you describe your comedic style:
Ignorantly optimistic self-deprecation

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I put brief ideas and observations in my notes app and swear I’ll write them on paper one day, but I never do.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
The best per capita, come at me I don’t care.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
If they laugh.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
Rodney Carrington, Nate Bargatze, John Crist, Leanne Morgan, Aaron Weber, Zac Townsend, & Fiona Cauley.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
The phone call I received informing me that I’d be going on tour full time with Rodney Carrington, which meant I was finally able to quit my 9-5 (for now).

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
It’s not the end of the world. You’ll get there. Just don’t stop.

How do people react toward you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
They fear me.

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
Very long but nothing more rewarding.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
Nothing. It’s perfect. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Ever. Can’t think of one thing.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
If you have a bad set, you can only be upset as long as the set was; then you gotta get over it and get better

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“Premature”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
Never met one.

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
At an all-black celebration of life in memoriam for someone I didn’t know.

A Matt Taylor Fun Fact:
I fake read books in public, so people think I’m smart.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
All the way to the top! Traveling headliner, a household name.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
We don’t own the laughs, they own us.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
Hopeful

If you could write an episode for ONE classic TV sitcom, which show would it be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
Boy Meets World, Topanga leaves Corey for me. But, like, I’d also be the same age as them, not my age now. While that would be accurate for Hollywood, that ain’t me, dawg.

If you could choose ONE comedy club and THREE comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
Zanies Nashville, Aaron Weber, Zac Townsend, & Chance Willie

What’s next for you:
Gonna be on tour opening for Rodney for a while and booking smaller headline gigs on my own on my weeks off!

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Because their life is a joke and everyone else is already laughing at them. I might as well join them.
