Schmigadoon! will not return for a third season. Apple TV+ has canceled the musical comedy series, starring Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key, after two seasons.

Series co-creator Cinco Paul shared the news on Instagram Thursday.

“I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with Season 3 of Schmigadoon!”, Paul wrote. “The season is written (including 25 new songs) but we unfortunately won’t be making it. Such is life.

“I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast and crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal and Apple, for everything they did to make it happen. It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did,” he continued. “And to all the fans of the show out there, thank you with all of my heart. Your love and support has meant so much, and the fact that you connected with our show, that it brought you some joy, means the world to me. This was tough news to get, but the optimist in me is convinced it’s not the end of Schmigadoon… and maybe it’s even a happy beginning.”

From co-creators Paul and Ken Daurio, after having found true love in the town of Schmigadoon, season two found Josh (Key) and Melissa (Strong) in Schmicago, the reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals.

Season 2 featured new original songs and returning stars Strong, Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit with Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page.

Schmigadoon! was produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group and Broadway Video.

Paul serves as showrunner and wrote all of the original songs for the series. Lorne Michaels is executive producer. Andrew Singer executive produces on behalf of Broadway Video with Micah Frank as co-executive producer.

Since its debut, Schmigadoon! earned Emmy and AFI awards and a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for star Kristin Chenoweth.
