A Different World sequel series is currently in the works at Netflix, and would chronicle the stories of Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter from the original series.
According to a recent report from Deadline, the single-cam, half-hour comedy series would come from writer/executive producer Felicia Pride and executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Bythewood.
While details on the series are scarce for now, the series would reportedly follow the daughter of Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), two characters from the original series. Their daughter would also be attending Hillman College, the school that was the main focus of the original show.
A Different World originally premiered in 1987, and was conceived as a spinoff to the massively popular series The Cosby Show. The series originally starred Lisa Bonet reprising her role as Denise Huxtable, and followed her life as a student at Hillman.
Bonet left the series after the first season, however, and the show then focused more primarily on the relationship between Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne. Alongside Guy and Hardison, other stars in the series included Marisa Tomei, Dwann Lewis, Mary Alice, Loretta Devine, Daryl M. Bell, and Sinbad.
