Name: Fast Ronald
Hometown: San Antonio/Austin, TX
Instagram/Twitter/Tik-Tok: @itsfastronald
Years in Comedy: 5
Haven’t we seen you somewhere before: Rolling Loud Tik Tok and IG
Favorite Comedy Album: Adam Sandler “What The Hell Happened To Me” In 5th grade, I listened to that cd until it wouldn’t play anymore. Talking goat skit still makes me laugh.
Favorite Comedy Special: John Leguizamo “Freak” This is the special that made me want to perform comedy. At age 12, I had no idea you could make dark situations into laughs. I became obsessed with comedy after this.
Favorite Comedy Movie: Cheech and Chong “Up in Smoke” It’s the first comedy I remember seeing. The physical humor and absurdity blew my mind away as a kid.
Favorite Comedy TV Show: The Simpsons. I learned a great deal about humor from watching this show. I’d go to school and poorly retell a joke on a weekly basis
Favorite Comedic Character:
Tracy Morgan as Astronaut Jones. I’m laughing as I write this “You make me hungry”
Favorite City to Perform In: Chicago. Working class people who want to laugh. I’ve had my best sets in Chicago.
Favorite Topics to Joke About: Most of my jokes revolve around true stories from my life. It’s easy to write about what you know.
Favorite Type of Audience for a Comedy Show: Late 20s – mid 40s working class humans. Young enough to have fun and old enough to still laugh.
Favorite Comedy Club: So far, The Lincoln Lodge in Chicago, IL

How did you discover your passion for comedy:
My stepdad was a huge comedy fan. Every weekend was a new movie, a new episode of SNL, a new comedy album. He introduced me to comedy.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I remember being excited. It’s what I always wanted to do. 1 joke got laughs, and 1 joke bombed terribly. Roller coaster of emotions. The coffee was terrible.

How would you describe your comedic style:
Storytelling. For myself, the easiest way to a laugh is through the story.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I’m constantly noting anything I hear or witness that’s funny. Continually referring to personal experiences and trying to find the humor. I’ll talk out loud to myself. Having a conversation with myself. I’ll let the words flow and then take notes. Filter through what I think is funny, and then write more in-depth stories from that.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
Austin is booming. It reminds me of my time in LA. Shows and mics every day. You can grow rapidly here.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
If I make the audience laugh more than you create awkward silence, that’s success to me.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
I started doing comedy because my homie Sam Harter told me he had been hitting open mics. I started going out with him. Fast forward, and we lived in LA at the same time, hitting 2-4 mics 5-6 nights a week for years, grinding and trying to learn this craft. He gave me my first real-life inspiration.
