Michael Chessler is looking to adapt his upcoming book Mess into a half-hour series.

Set to be published August 12 by Harper Perennial, the book follows Jane Brown, a professional organizer in Los Angeles who loves order and tidiness but struggles to accept the exasperatingly messy world at large, most especially her unreliable boyfriend. She finds that her colorful array of clients, in particular one woman who is her polar opposite, unexpectedly guide her onto a path to happiness.

Chessler will develop the book with his writing partner Chris Alberghini.

Deadline hears that multiple producers have expressed interest in taking the project to studios.

Chessler and Alberghini were the creators/showrunners of Fox’s BH90210. They also served as showrunners on MTV’s Awkward as well as VH1’s Daytime Divas and So noTORIous, which they also created. They got their start with comedies such as Murphy BrownWhoopi and Reba.

The book is represented by Sally Willcox at Willcox Literary, acting on behalf of Lisa Bankoff at Bankoff Collaborative.
