How did you discover your passion for comedy:
I noticed from a very young age that I was inherently funnier than my peers.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I remember being incredibly nervous right before going on stage, but as soon as I started my jokes, the nerves went away. Stand-up has actually improved my audition and stage fright significantly. Oh, and I also had diarrhea right before I went on stage, but I played it off very well.

How would you describe your comedic style:
Sophisticated with a touch of “what just happened?”

Describe your process for comedic writing:
At this point, I basically think in punchlines.

Angelic Shots

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
Luckily, I live in a fast-growing comedy hub! There are always shows and open mics happening. Not to mention all of the touring comedians.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
I think the sound of laughter is success.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
I love Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr, Whitney Cummings, and Seth MacFarlane.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
When I headlined a sold-out show at The Improv.

Alejandra Rincon Photography

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
Do not let it define your comedy. Sometimes people think that if they bomb a show, they need to rewrite every single joke. Take it in, take a moment, and see what you can improve, but don’t change your entire comedic personality based on one show. Everyone bombs.

How do people react toward you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
They usually ask me to tell them a joke in the moment to prove that I am truly funny.

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
I am still building, so check back with me later.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
I would change how easily people get offended by comedy and jokes. It’s a joke! Stop taking life so seriously!

Robert Kazandijan

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
Keep telling jokes.

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“Sorry I Was Late, I Had Diarrhea”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
Quentin Tarantino once said I was the funniest comedian he had ever seen! (This never happened)

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
A dinner table

Stephanie Girard

An Ashley Arpel Fun Fact:
I can finish an entire pizza pie by myself!

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
My dream is to be the first kill in a Scream movie! And perhaps reality television?

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Be yourself. If you love making people laugh and you also love to laugh, then own that. Own your jokes, your thoughts, and your opinions. Be proud of your words, and absorb every laugh like it’s water.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
I hope that comedy continues to have no boundaries. Censoring jokes is the downfall of comedy.

Stephanie Girard

If you could write an episode for ONE classic TV sitcom, which show would it be:
I think it would be incredible to write an episode for Will & Grace. I loved it growing up, and in my opinion, it has some of the best writing and comedic timing ever. The episode would center around Karen acting as a completely unqualified mediator or therapist between Will and Grace, while Jack constantly interjects and makes everything worse.

If you could choose ONE comedy club and THREE comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
Instead of a club, how about we do Radio City Music Hall? I would choose Seth MacFarlane, Jerry Seinfeld, and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (they’re a duo, so it counts!). Seth MacFarlane and I would sing a beautiful duet full of comedic ridiculousness, but it would sound amazing!

What’s next for you:
I will be performing at the Coconut Grove Comedy Festival happening April 24–25, and I am co-headlining at the Fort Lauderdale Improv on April 29. Listen to my podcast Lox of Laughs wherever podcasts are available for chats about reality TV and comedy.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Because life is too short not to laugh.
