Atlanta-born, stand-up comedian and writer, MANDAL, also known as The MANDAL Man’s debut comedy release, “$$$$$$” (pronounced “dollar sign”) is set for an October 25, 9pm EST livestream premiere.
Co-Produced by Donald Glover’s media company Gilga and Bay Area Comedy power house Blonde Medicine, “$$$$$$” pairs MANDAL’s charmingly odd humor with the look and feel of golden-age comedy specials of the 1970s and classic late-night TV. His storytelling, spinning tales of friendship and growing older, is so effortless that the room feels like his living room, and everyone in it feels like an old friend. Said MANDAL, “this standup comedy program is my beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy: my fantasy of me in another universe.” He hopes that his fans and viewers get a laugh or two out of the half-hour, and possibly are inspired to be as creatively free and weird as they would like to be.
On October 25 from 9am-9pm, MANDAL will host a 12-hour livestream event leading up to the premiere. “The “$$$$$$” Call-A-Thon” will have one goal: to reach 1M pledged views for the premiere. The Call-A-Thon will unfold like an increasingly chaotic variety show, featuring several bits including a Monopoly game with Big Boi and Sleepy Brown, a live game show, and a Yeek dance tournament, among other fun moments. The Call-A-Thon will culminate in the world premiere of “$$$$$$”, bringing MANDAL’s retro television experiment full-circle.
“$$$$$$” will also have an audio release both digitally and on limited edition gold vinyl. Pre-orders for the album version and vinyl of “$$$$$$” will be live here starting October 7th.
