Comedian and former “Saturday Night Live” writer opens up about ambition, burnout, motherhood, family, and discovering what really exists on the other side of success.

Success may be something everyone spends their life chasing, but comedian Rosebud Baker has learned that reaching your biggest goals doesn’t necessarily provide the fulfillment you imagined.

“If your goal is to feel completed by success, it’s gonna get worse and worse the more successful you get.”

That realization becomes one of several deeply personal subjects explored as Baker joins Maryam for a candid, funny, and unexpectedly revealing conversation about the complicated realities behind ambition.

The acclaimed stand-up comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer opens up about sobriety, motherhood, undergoing IVF, experiencing miscarriage, navigating her career, and learning how to build a fulfilling life after spending years operating in chaos.

Baker also discusses her unique upbringing as the granddaughter of former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker, providing insight into the family environment and experiences that helped shape her perspective long before comedy became her career.

But even Maryam isn’t prepared for one of the conversation’s biggest revelations.

During the interview, Baker unexpectedly announces that she is getting divorced, adding another deeply personal layer to an already vulnerable discussion about change, identity, relationships, and learning how to rebuild when life doesn’t follow the plan you originally created for yourself.

Throughout the conversation, Baker examines the emotional price that can accompany professional ambition. After reaching goals she once believed would make everything feel complete, she found herself confronting burnout and questioning what success was actually supposed to provide.

That realization ultimately became part of her decision to leave SNL and begin building something of her own.

Rather than presenting success as the finish line, Baker offers a more complicated perspective on what happens when someone finally receives many of the things they spent years believing they wanted. The higher she climbed professionally, the clearer it became that accomplishments couldn’t automatically provide peace, happiness, or personal fulfillment.

The conversation also finds plenty of room for Baker’s signature dark humor, including her hilariously concise assessment of getting older.

Her description of your 30s?

“It’s your 20s but with more money.”

Funny, raw, vulnerable, and filled with hard-earned wisdom, Baker’s conversation with Maryam becomes much more than an interview about comedy. It’s an examination of sobriety, motherhood, marriage, career pressure, grief, personal reinvention, and the difficult process of learning how to exist when chaos is no longer controlling your life.

Most importantly, it’s a conversation about what actually exists on the other side of ambition—and discovering that getting everything you wanted doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve found everything you need.

Fans can hear even more of Rosebud Baker’s story in her memoir, “Fully Baked,” available now.
