How did you discover your passion for comedy:
I’ve always been able to capture an audience, whether I meant to or not, and I also really just enjoy making people laugh.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I kept thinking, “I hope no one is looking at my cameltoe.”

How would you describe your comedic style:
Bubbly with a twist.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I have copious amounts of material written EVERYWHERE because you never know when inspiration will strike, and most of the time it’s when I’m lying in bed late at night. So I just write down my thoughts and then identify the punches and tags. I like to try things out on stage and then go back and rewrite. I don’t think I’ve stopped working on my jokes, and a lot of my material is still somewhere in composition notebook purgatory.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
It’s tight.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
Being able to live off the income you make just through comedy.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
I enjoy and look up to many comics in my community, especially those from the 209, such as Cookie Williams, Brennden Curtiss, Insane Wayne, and Gabriel Alexander.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
So far, just bombing.

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
How to be better.

How do people react toward you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
When my family found out I was doing stand up, they were like “yeah, that clocks.”

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
It’s a hustle.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
Judgement.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
The audience wants you to do good, too.

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“She’s Somebody’s Mom?”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
How many celebrities do you gotta encounter to be able to have the funniest one? I partied with Bam Margera at the Folsom Hotel, it was not funny, but we had fun.

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
In a musky dungeon that passed for a comedy club in NYC

A Mari Delgadillo Fun Fact:
I previously did stand-up comedy in my early 20s after a bad break-up. I started in SF and was the female personality for a show on FCC Free Radio when podcasts were just getting started. I stopped comedy because I really felt like I had nothing interesting to say. Sure, I was funny, but I lacked depth & passion.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
I wanna buy my momma a house.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Just have fun!

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
The world is not so fun right now, and I think people are seeking out escapes and things that make them feel good, so I can see a spike in Comedy!

If you could write an episode for ONE classic TV sitcom, which show would it be:
Broad City – Ilana finally gets to have her way with Abby, but it turns out it was Abby’s long-lost twin.

If you could choose ONE comedy club and THREE comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
The purple onion in SF for pure nostalgia, Chelsea Handler, Michelle Buteau, and Robin Williams as the host.

What’s next for you:
I signed an NDA, so I can’t tell, but stay tuned.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
It’s medicines.
