The brand is no longer strong… Showtime’s late-night series Desus & Mero will not return for a 5th season.

The reason is not because of the show has been unpopular, rather the host duo of Desus Nice and The Kid Mero (aka The Bodega Boys) have decided to end their partnership of the last decade or so and pursue, “separate creative endeavors moving forward.” That’s right, the Bodega Boys are no longer. The final episode of the TV show aired on Showtime on June 23rd.

The a spokesperson for Showtime spoke to Variety and said the following…

“Desus Nice and The Kid Mero will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward. Showtime’s late-night talk show ‘Desus & Mero’ will not be returning for a fifth season,” a Showtime spokesperson said. “Desus Nice and The Kid Mero have made a name for themselves in comedy and in the late-night space as quick-witted cultural commentators. Throughout its run, the series won a WGA Award, received Critics’ Choice nominations and scored interviews with President Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Derek Jeter, Missy Elliott, Denzel Washington, Charlize Theron, David Letterman, Yo-Yo Ma and many more. They have been brilliant hosts, and we wish them the best, along with the team at JAX Media and the incredible crew.”

This news isn’t terribly shocking to fans that have been paying attention on Twitter lately as things seem to have been brewing there for a bit. The duo have worked together on TV shows, web series, podcast and other endeavors for the last decade.

Rumors began when the show was picked up for a 5th season but no premiere date was announced, then a social media tweets tossing shade began, a Tweet from Desus “bodegahive you think I abandoned y’all but the art is coming back. Plz believe in me, I love y’all.” Which kinda quelled fears until a few days ago when Mero surfaced on Reddit stating otherwise, “NAH IT’S A WRAP BRODY, SOMEBODY MENTIONED DUDE TWEETING THAT FROM SOME COUNTRY AT LIKE 3AM. I TOURED WITH DUDE FOR YEARS HE WAS FUBAR AND IN HIS BAG. PODCAST DONE ENJOY THE BACK CATALOG MY PALS.”

Desus responded with an “I tried ya’ll” Tweet.

So the duo seemingly confirmed this news on, but Showtime made the news official earlier today.

They were last spotted together at the MLB celebrity all-star game but hardly interacted with each other.
