This week Bill got the chance to sit down, laugh, and build with comedy brother, friend, and colleague, Chris Spencer, about his journey in the business. The duo talk about how the West was snubbed in the Grammy tribute to Hip-Hop, the birth of his faux-reality TV satire show “Real Husbands of Hollywood” starring Kevin Hart, and his upcoming theatrical directorial debut, “Back on the Strip,” premiering on April 21, 2023 featuring Bellamy, JB Smoove, Gary Owen, Tiffany Haddish, Faizon Love, and Wesley Snipes… just to name a few. The bond they share in comedy is deep, and the stories are entertaining!

Bill Bellamy:  Bill Bellamy is an American actor and stand-up comedian. Bellamy first gained national notoriety on HBO’s Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, where he is credited for creating or coining the phrase “booty call”, described as a late-night call to a potential paramour with the intention of meeting strictly for sex.

For many years, Bellamy was a staple on MTV, a VJ and the host of several MTV programs including MTV Jamz and MTV Beach House. He went on to star in a number of movies, including FledLove JonesThe BrothersHow to Be a PlayerGetting Played and Any Given Sunday. He also appeared on two episodes of the TV show Kenan and Kel. Additionally, he voiced Skeeter on the Nickelodeon television show Cousin Skeeter.

In 2002, Bellamy had a co-starring role in the Fox Network television show Fastlane alongside Peter Facinelli and Tiffani Thiessen. He also appeared frequently as a “roundtable” guest on the late-night E! talk show Chelsea Lately. Bellamy hosted seasons 5 and 6 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing reality show (2007 and 2008). In 2014, he had a recurring role as Councilman Powell on the TV Land original series Hot in Cleveland. He voiced Marcus Hill, a playable character in the 2005 updated version of the NARC video game.

Bellamy hosts Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes? on TV One. The show is in its fourth season; he is an executive producer for it. In 2020, he starred in the Netflix miniseries Self Made.

Chris Spencer: It’s hard to keep a straight face when talking to Chris Spencer. Extremely talented and hilarious, this quick-witted funnyman has a resume spanning over 30 years since his start in the business at six years old. Today, his resume ranges across several sectors of the industry – acting, writing, producing, directing and stand-up. With more than thirty television commercials, nine feature films, numerous television show appearances, a published book and nationwide comedy tours under his belt, Spencer is truly at the top of the entertainment game.

Chris co-created and executive produced BET/Netflix’s hit original series Real Husbands of Hollywood, a faux reality-TV satire, that has starred everyone from Chris Brown to Katie Couric. In its first season, he won a prestigious NAACP Image Award. The show is entirely based on a sketch Spencer created for the BET Awards in 2010 that immediately went viral.

In addition to Real Husbands of Hollywood, Chris has been the head writer for countless award shows featuring hosts such as Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Leslie Jones and Cedric the Entertainer. He also wrote and Executive Produced Grown-ish, which is Freeform’s spinoff of ABC’s hit show Black-ish. He currently has major projects around town with Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart.
