In this episode titled Doing Nothing to Become Something, Jiaoying Summers is joined by legendary comedian Patton Oswalt.

They begin the podcast by talking about their children and comparing Jiaoying’s toddlers to Patton’s grumpy teenagers. They then talk about the importance of having “wilderness years” where you are free to mess up with no one watching, and how today’s young adults are robbed of that luxury.

The two compare their starts in comedy and how social media has influenced people to have a certain polished rhythm that makes them less unique. They then talk about music, the music their kids listen to, and why there is more to Taylor Swift than meets the eye. They discuss the importance of doing nothing and how the most innovative ideas come from having to entertain yourself.

They end the podcast by talking about their favorite comedians, why Joan Rivers is un-cancellable, and the art of reinventing yourself for a career of longevity.
