Comedian Hannah Berner, who was named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” for 2023, is set to record her first comedy special for Netflix.
The hour-long special will be taped in Philadelphia, PA, at the Fillmore on Saturday March 23rd, 2024.

“This is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to me,” Berner tells Variety. “I’m in love with the hour that I’ve been touring for a while now, and I’m honored that Netflix wants to showcase my silly bits. I’m excited for my standup to reach a larger audience and to celebrate the community of bad ass women and scared boyfriends, mothers and zaddies that got me to this point.”
Asked why she chose the Fillmore, the Brooklyn-raised Berner noted the East Coast has a special place in her heart. Though it’s been two years she was last at the location, she notes, “I remember the Fillmore being beautiful and the laughter was amazing. The crowds are passionate, smart, loud, and know how to have a good time.”
Berner rose to prominence in the comedy world with her viral “Han on the Street” segments and with her podcasts “Berning in Hell” and “Giggly Squad,” which showcase her quick wit and pop culture knowledge. At last year’s Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival, she appeared on the “Comics to Watch” panel and spoke frankly about leaving behind a promising career as a junior tennis player after experience anxiety on the court. “I was so nervous on game days. But I was winning. So everyone just kept saying, ‘This is what you should do,’” she told the audience. “And it took balls to say, ‘This doesn’t make me happy.’ Just because you’re really good at something doesn’t mean it’s what you were meant to do. And I found success in another industry, just when I thought my dream was dead. And it’s one that makes me so happy.”
Berner’s special is being produced by Don’t Tell Comedy and will air on Netflix in 2024.
As for what audiences can expect: “The show will hopefully make everyone cry hysterically laughing and forget about all their problems for 60 minutes,” Berner teases. “I also hope they leave feeling empowered and not taking life too seriously. That’s the goal.”
