Lauren Lapkus, star of The Big Bang Theory, has seen her new comedy series cancelled by Netflix.

The actress was due to voice the lead role in Bad Crimes, an animated comedy produced by Greg Daniels (King of the Hill) and Mike Judge (Silicon Valley).

As reported by Variety, the series is now being considered by other platforms in the hope of finding a backer, with Netflix cancelling the show for “creative” reasons. No further details have been shared at this stage.

Bad Crimes, created by Nicole Silverberg (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee), was described as a “dark comedy procedural following Kara (Nicole Byer) and Jennie (Lapkus), two FBI agents who travel across the country to solve grisly crimes while juggling their friendship, career ambitions, and as many men as possible”.

Lapkus, who also starred in Jurassic World, does have a project in the works, with the actress set to star in Another Happy Day.

The comedy, which is being directed by Nora Fiffer, sees Lapkus play a mother struggling to bring up her baby.

Meanwhile, the actress played Denise on The Big Bang Theory in 2018 and 2019, appearing in eight episodes altogether. The stars of the sitcom recently spoke about the show’s cancellation and ending, which came after Jim Parsons decided to leave.

Speaking in Jessica Radloff’s book, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, Johnny Galecki said he saw some of his castmates “emotionally crumble” at the news.

“I just disagreed with how it [the cancellation] was handled,” he said. “We thought we were going into [co-creator] Chuck [Lorre]’s office to talk about renegotiating, and then Chuck tossed the baton to Jim. And Jim was shocked and obviously caught off guard.”

The show, which ended after 12 seasons, has been subject to rumours of a revival, with co-creator Bill Prady saying: “Would I like to stand on a stage someplace and watch those characters again? Yes, absolutely.”
