The 2010 cult sports comedy Blue Mountain State is getting a sequel series.
The planned project is reportedly being shopped by Lionsgate Television. According to sources (via Deadline), the sequel may also see the return of Alan Ritchson as Mountain Goats’ Kevin “Thad” Devlin Castle.
While negotiations for the project are still ongoing, Deadline also reported that the sequel series may land on Amazon, where the Ritchon-led hit series Reacher is streaming. It is also likely to land on Netflix, where the series — per the outlet’s report — “found new audience and cemented its cult status following its original three-season run on Spike.”
Apart from Ritchson, the major players of Mountain Goats are also expected to be back for the sequel series, including Darin Brooks’ Alex Moran and Chris Romano’s Sampson “Sammy” Cacciatore. Series creators Romano and Eric Falconer may also return as the sequel’s co-creators, according to the outlet.
Although the project has not “fully landed yet,” a follow-up film — titled Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland — was released back in 2016, thanks to a GoFundMe campaign. So with the franchise’s massive following, a sequel series is nowhere near impossible.
Described as a raunchy comedy series, Blue Mountain State centers on the titular fictitious university and its football team called the Mountain Goats, with its three key players (Darin, Alan, and Chris) adapting to college life and anything that comes with it.
“This laugh-out-loud comedy follows three incoming freshmen attending Blue Mountain State, a college football powerhouse, and their quest to adapt to college life while juggling football, girls, classes, and non-stop hazing,” the synopsis for Blue Mountain State reads.
In addition to the three main leads, Blue Mountain State also starred Sam Jones III as Craig Shilo, Page Kennedy as Radon Randell, Frankie Shaw as Mary Jo Cacciatore, Ed Marinaro as Martin “Marty” Daniels, Denise Richards as Debra Simon, and Gabrielle Dennis as Denise Roy.
