Bobby Lee has inked a deal to bring his first-ever stand-up special to Hulu.

No logline or release date has been provided, but the special marks the culmination of Lee’s 30+ year in comedy. The comedy special will also debut on Hulu on Disney+ domestically, for bundle subscribers, and on Disney+ internationally.

Lee is filming the special at the Balboa Theater in his hometown of San Diego, CA this weekend. It’s produced by North Hill Productions and directed by Louis Katz. Lee exec produced alongside Bill Burr and Mike Bertolina.

While Lee is an accomplished comic who’s been on the road for decades, he’s long been open about his trepidations in approaching his first special. In an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, he admitted, “The reason why I haven’t done a special is because of the fear of doing new sh*t. It’s shameful.”

Still, he’s faced down his fears at last, expanding on a prolific career as a stand-up, actor, and podcaster. Known these days for co-hosting Bad Friends and Tiger Belly, two of the top comedy podcasts in the world, Lee was a cast member on Mad TV for eight seasons, from 2001 to 2009. Also working consistently in film and television for decades, he was a series regular on Splitting Up Together and Animal Practice, with recent credits including And Just Like That…Magnum P.I., and Reservation Dogs.

Hulu just saw Kumail Nanjiani earn his first Golden Globe nomination for Stand-Up for Night Thoughts, his recently released special for the streamer, which we highlighted on our Comedy Means Business podcast. Upcoming, Hulu will also be presenting specials from the likes of Nikki Glaser, Lisa Ann Walter, and Hannah Berner.
