A night that honors one of comedy’s most cherished legends returns at the start of the year.

On Wednesday morning, comedian Bill Burr made an announcement on social media that the annual Patrice O’Neal Comedy Benefit Concert will be returning for its ninth year.

A night benefitting Patrice’s family, the show will be headlined by Burr himself and will feature stellar performances from Pete Davidson, Chris Distefano, Matteo Lane, Yamaneika Saunders, Sherrod Small, Cipha Sounds, Mike Vecchione, Rich Vos, and Sal Vulcano.

The event will take place at the New York City Center in New York, New York on January 18th, 2022.

Beginning his comedy career in the Boston area in 1992, Patrice O’Neal would become well-known for his regular guest appearances on the talk show Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and the radio show Opie and Anthony. After several years in Boston, O’Neal moved to Los Angeles and toured Australia and England, before settling in New York City. O’Neal died of a stroke resulting from his type 2 diabetes on November 29, 2011, at the age of 41, 8 days before his 42nd birthday.

After O’Neal’s death, BSeen Media announced the release of his first comedy album Mr. P, which he had been working on. The set, recorded in April 2011 at D.C. Improv in Washington, D.C., was released on February 7, 2012, with his involvement prior to his passing. Sales of the release were donated to his mother, girlfriend, and stepdaughter. The album reached number one on the Billboard Comedy Albums chart and number 35 on the Billboard 200.

On February 19, 2021, Comedy Central released Patrice O’Neal: Killing is Easy, a documentary on O’Neal’s life and career. It was directed by Michael Bonfiglio who also served as executive producer along with Bill Burr, Al Madrigal, Michael Bertolina, and Vondecarlo Brown.
